Erin went to one of her friend’s birthday party yesterday, and I was dragged along by the Minister of Home Affairs (A.K.A. .. Wife) . The party wasn’t the usual one you would expect for 8 year olds.. This one involved knives and gas !!!

Each of the friends had their own little station, and so began the cooking lesson…

…. Some chicken to be cut up… ” all gooey daddy” ….

…. Chopping up some onions…..

… Shaving some mint chocolate…

And the finished product..???

A seriously delicious chicken vegetable pie… And …

And an amazing peppermint crisp tart…

Now, what shall she make us for supper tonight…?????

… her last one before she starts primary school. As always, all the grades in the pre-school take part in the concert.

The theme this year was “under the sea”…

… And of course, you can’t have an underwater theme without “spongebob”…

… and pirates…

All the kiddies sang their hearts away

And we were spoilt with a beautiful duet by Erin.

She has grown up so much, I can’t believe she is starting primary school.

Well done my princess, your mommy and daddy are so proud of you.

Fathers Day today is definitely the best I have ever had. Did I do anything special?.. No… I played golf this morning at Services Golf Club, the military owned golf course in the heart of the Defence Force corps.
Erin wasn’t home when I left, as she had spent the night at a friends farm.

So when I got home, she presented me with a Fathers Day present I will NEVER forget. Nothing bought, just a simple gift made at school and at home.

And from school…..

Braai mix, with a picture she drew ofher and me braaing together…. special? Yes, very…. but what she said whilst explaining the picture brought me to tears.

Let me diverse slightly first. I am colour blind, snd one of the favorite games Erin plays is trying to teach me colours.  She thinks its very funny I cant distinguish colours, and takes it as her responsibility to teach me whenever she can.

Now, when she was describing the picture on the braai mix container, she said.. ” you can see blue, hey daddy?” After I said yes, she sighed and smiled..

A bit confused, I asked her why, and then she floored me!

I made it blue so you can see it”

That simple act of making sure I can see the picture because of my colour deficiency made the tears flow from my eyes! That small thoughtful act from a 6 year old made me realise what a lucky man I am..

I love you my princess!

Last weekend, Erin had her first ballet concert. The first story was of the girls on a beach.

The second, was a depiction of the “night before Christmas”

She was so amazing… I must admit, I had a very proud daddy moment!

With great views from our penthouse apartment

Great company, braaing almost every night under the african sky, with the waves crashing just below us

Erin’s first time in the sea, and boy did she gave fun… It was wonderful seeing her having so much fun, seeing pure joy on her face, even after her first “dump”, she just laughed and wanted more.

We went to Ushaka Marine World,

Watched the spectacular dolphin show

Eyed out the local gangsters of the sea

All told, it was a fantastic week, and definately not long enough.

It has been a long time since i have blogged. Honestly, i havent had the motivation recently. I’ve gotten home from work and collapsed, haven’t really taken any pictures either go blog about.

Anyway, we are on holiday in Balitto, the first break we have had in years. And its just in time. We definitely have needed this break. I’ve been in my job at Europ Assistance for 6 months already, whew, i can’t believe its been half a year already. And what a time i have had. I can honestly say, i haven’t been this happy at work in many years.

We have come down to Balitto on holiday, joined by Nicoles childhood friend and her family from Australia. I’ve decided not to take pictures with my camera, and rather, take all pictures with my Samsung tablet. Just for a difference.

We stopped at Howick Falls, just outside Pietermaritzburg in Kwazulu-natal on the way.

Beautiful waterfalls, 95m high

And then after sampling seriously delicious chocolate milkshakes, we continued onto Balitto, on the north coast Kwazulu-natal.

On Sunday I did a photography shoot for the Inter-Provincial Ten Pin Bowling teams, and whilst waiting for the teams to arrive, I used the opportunity to take a few pics.

Because I had Erin with me, i don’t normally take her with to shoots, but I couldn’t find a babysitter, I convinced her to model for me, while I took different shots to get the exposure right.
